Vision for El Chapo, the Rancho Funk Vintage Funk Truck

Our 1966 C10 was roachy and well loved when we found it sitting in a carport in Apache Shores,
Texas. It was wearing Mexico plates but titled as a Texas truck. That was the beginning of a mystery
that is still unfolding.

Our goal for El Chapo is to have a vehicle we can use for our business, which is vintage picking, and reselling. To that end, we want to have hand-lettered door art on both sides of the truck and with hand-lettered type on the bedsides like the truck above. We want the type to look aged and hand-done.

DOOR:

RANCHO FUNK

Bee Cave, TX

BED SIDES:

SIDE ONE:
RETRO - MID-MOD - BYGONES - ODDITIES
SIDE TWO:
FUNKY - VINTAGE - FINDS

Our plan is to leave the paint and body intact but to add some new touches.  Disc brakes up front, an updated lowered suspension and a basic detailing to the engine compartment. We're going to keep the original 6-cylinder and manual 4-speed trans to assess whether it gets the job done.

In the meantime, the modifications have begun. We're swapped out the24" wheels the truck came with for a set of 6-lug wheels leftover from my Suburban, which I switched over to five-lugs.

The wheels were blasted and repainted by my buddy Brian Davis in really tasty argent color and cleared.
I ordered a set of 6-lub spider caps for it.

2.5" drop spindles, a disc brake front end, and a rack and pinion steering system are in the works.
So there's plenty of work to be done before we finalize the drivetrain.

Whether I go V8 or keep the Straight 6, the engine will be detailed to look factory.
In keeping with the El Chapo vibe, I'm on the hunt for a tapestry or funky rug to make a carpet set, and possible door panels and seat inserts with.

More to follow.
